Sound off ... Food Budget

Ok. Me, my wife, two small kids ... are spending a CRAZY amount of money each month on food. We have gone through our finances over the past couple of months and broken it down in to two categories: groceries and dining out.

I'm embarassed to make this public knowledge. But what the hay... thats never stopped me before.

Nearly one thousand freakin' dollars every month. (This figure also includes household needs like toilet paper, cleaning supplies, etc.)

How about you? Tell me how many peeps in your household, and how much dough you are spendin'. Perhaps the shame will help me change.

Eat out?! That would be an occasional FRESH CHOICE trip for us, WITH the use of the $1 off coupon (which, incidentally, you can print off their website if you don't find one in the newspaper).

We also save by eating out with friends who like to treat us.

Or, eating at Mimi's, we often can share the salad dinner because it's large enough, and there's the bread basket that's on the table.

Shopping at Albertson's and using the Preferred Card keeps the monthly down. Still, I think our budget is probably $400/month usually, which includes some bulk buys of regular food purchases and TP stuff and dog and cat food--that's for just 2 human beings (and 1 cat and 2 dogs). It's just plain expensive to eat food these days...

small talk about life,
Ah... good. I am not the only crazy food spender around. :) Thanks for the visit!

Eireann,
*gasp* Never eat out? NOOOOO!!!! Oh, I heard ants are good nutrients. ...

HEY EVERYBODY! Name that movie:
"Mmmmm. Dead ants. Yummm. LIVE ants!"

Auntie Lamb,
Ah yes, my father has the same cravings for Fresh Choice. Personally? I hate the place. Not sure why, but that ranks right around Taco Bell for me. I like the generous friends idea. And Mimi's is pretty good too. I'm impressed with that budget. Of course, you ARE the queen of reusing the plastic ziplock bags! :)

Sue,
(*Please use "Miroslav" instead of real name. Thanks!*)
Yeah, the problem with our grandparents is we have two in Woodland, one down south, and one who is crazy busy. But we do get a good couple of mooch meals in from time to time. hehe... I hear you on the kids stuff. All I know is that Dora the Explorer must be one rich little kid by now.

Marita,
I like your attitude!

Sidewards 8,
Whats up stranger! I support no howling. Some of us have integrity.

George,
Thats all you guys spend?! Wow! Impressive. Nice work. ... And nice research on Eireann. We gotta watch her closely. Can't trust anything that freedom fighter, feminist, neo-communist, America-hater says. (oops, did I just say that out loud?) LOL.

Miroslav,
Does this include your lunches out? We have the same size and age family as you. We spend $430 on groceries, $250 eating out (lunches, coffee, dinner), $150 on houshold consumables. Mind you this includes diapers and we often go over the eating out budget and my gut shows it. So that totals to $830 plus or minus.

Hey I like the fact that when I come over you have ice cream, Ruffles and dip, and cheescake in the freezer. Keep it up. It wouldn't hurt to buy some beer for your friends. Come on!
