Every day stupidity

You know how they say no question is a dumb question? Well... they are wrong.

For the past several days I have been haunted by a really inane question. Every day, when I hop in my car and buckle my seat belt, I wonder ...

Left Hand?
Right Hand?
Or a transfer / combo sort of thing?

Yes. I want to know how YOU buckle your seat belt when you drive.

efficiently.

The hand that is on the side of the buckle reaches across my chest and grabs the metal piece on the opposite shoulder of itself; I proceed to pull it back the way the hand came, making a natural flow to the buckle that hands resides by.

Right hand reaches up and across, grabs the seatbelt, crosses my body and back down into the little snapper thingy. Awesomeness.

Ok. I am obviously seat belt challenged. I've always done the left-hand-tweak-grab and then made a swap to my right hand about half way over. It was totally awkward and hurt my left shoulder half the time. HA! Yes, Miroslav is seat belt challenged. ... Well, I should say that Miroslav WAS seat belt challenged. I'm in therapy now. And am making good progress. Three right hand grabs in a row!

Our mini-van has really-hard-to-get-out seat belts, so you HAVE to do the transfer thing. The driver tends to grab the belt with left hand to give it a good yank forward, but then driver has to hold the buckle with the right hand to see help judge how far the other hand has to keep pulling the belt out of the socket.
These things are harder to explain than demonstrate, no?

Excuseme! but some of us really special people don't have that problem at all! I just grab with the left and take it all the way across and into the buckle which I sometimes hold firm with my right hand. I can do it one-handed if necessary. So being the only people in our right minds (lefties if you haven'figured it out!) has many advantages

I find that while in the driver's seat I use my right hand to reach up and pull the buckle across my chest but then I change to the left hand to insert the buckle in the receiver. Although it is a two hand motion I do find it to be comfortable. One added comment though, when my left hand is retracting from inserting the buckle I use it to straighten the lap belt so that it doesn't wrinkle my shirt. You know, bring it down to belt level or bring the untucked shirt out over the seatbelt.

I have definately thought about this.

Okay I lied. Well not intentionally actually. But I buckle my belt all kinds of ways and it is usually a transfer from left to right though. Funny how you think you know what you do until actually do the task and then find out it isn't likw you think.

The left hand reaches back and with one swift gesture pulls out the belt at a 45 degree angle to the chest. With the right hand grasp the buckle and insert the thing into that other thing. Now, heres the critical thing that needs follow through. With the right hand you must smooth the belt back over to remove twists and turns. Now I must remove my self and continue to work on that world hunger thing...
