Not the best date night movie...

Tonight we watched "The Squid and The Whale". What a painfully intense movie. Not even sure where to begin putting my thoughts together...

Anybody else seen it?

Papa and I almost watched it night before last but chose another instead. We definitely want to see it, given the crooked miles we've walked. I'll let you know my thoughts then.
I love you so much.
Au Revoir and Ciao!

I don't recall even hearing about it, and now I see why. It looks to be a real downer of a movie. Not something I would want to retain in memory, had I heard of it. Glenn Whipp, LOS ANGELES DAILY NEWS sez: "As smart and strongly acted as the movie is, you're still left with the feeling that it's ultimately a rather thin slice of personal history that would have been better left as a short story or a lifetime of therapy sessions."

Tagline: Joint Custody Blows.

It was critically acclaimed, but, then, so was a movie about a guy who commits suicide by booze in Las Vegas.

If I want to be depressed, all I have to do is look at reality.

When I was young, I bought into the whole idea that important films about important things are important.

Mr. D's influence opened my eyes to the idea that movies are entertainment, and if it's not fun, why bother?

That said, many of the movies I enjoy are indies: two of the best movies I have seen in the past 8 months were Junebug, and Thank-You For Smoking. But the latter was a heartwarming laff-riot, and the former was a heartwarming tale of family.

For me, heartwarming is just as good as fun. But dark and depressing, I avoid like the plague.

Really?! David you liked Junebug? I couldn't wait to get out of the theater. It was so depressing and pretty pointless. If that is a endearing story of family , I think I could do without. Maybe I am to shallow or have high expectations, but, really! So I probably won't want to watch the one Miroslav is referring to either!
Way to go Momma, I agree with your earlier or later, post that says God can't really use us til we are broken or however you put it , I couldn't agree more.

Did Woman of Faith actually sit through an entire movie that bummed her out so much?

I remember a guy walked out on "Tell Them Willie Boy Is Here."

I walked out on "American Graffitti," which was a big commercial and critical hit, at the time. To me, it was just a movie about greasers cruising in cars, and obsessing about getting laid. Yuck.

A pal walked out on "Ghostbusters" because it scared his daughter. He said it was a straight demonic "possession" movie, and I can't disagree with that, though I enjoyed Bill Murray.

My sister walked out on "Who Framed Roger Rabbit." It really rubbed her the wrong way.

De gustibus non disputandum est.

Chacun à son goût.
