The Danger of Depth
It takes quite an accident,
or quite the fool,
to die by way of a tide pool.
But give it enough time
and even a man of great endurance
will drown in deep waters.

Lo! Leviathan bestirs itself and roils the abyss. Rising from the deep, its pale gray eyes brood like a threatening squall unto the horizon. Finding no Tiamat, no Rahab, no Behemoth with which to contend, it settles upon the face of the waters, content for a brief time to survey from its distance that part of creation forever forbidden to it.
What dull malevolence seeps through its brain? What makes it, of this dancing, this music, this family of man? Only silence and the dim splashing of water against scales replies. And slowly, imperceptibly, like the sliding of glacial ice, it submerges once more beneath the firmament of waves.

Wonderful writing. You create that masterpiece just for little ol' me? Or is it from a classical work that I should recognize?
